Small shrub up to 3 feet tall with triangle shaped leaves and prickly burrs occurring on alluvial plains, mesas and rocky slopes from 1,000 to 3,000 ft. elevation. Often occurs in pure stands. Occupies the same ecological niche as A. dumosa but occurs further east. Not very palatable to livestock or wildlife, but useful for erosion control and ecosystem reconstruction.
