Semi-evergreen shrub, 2 to 5 ft. tall, occurring on shallow to medium depth, well drained rocky plains and slopes between 2,000 and 6,000 ft. elevation. More tolerant of alkaline and saline soils than E. viridis. Good palatability for livestock and wildlife especially on winter rangelands.
