Cercocarpus montanus Birch-leaf mountain mahogany

Large deciduous shrub, 3 to 15 ft. tall occurring on well drained, shallow to moderately deep soils. Adapted to benches, slopes, and ridges but may also occur along canyon bottoms, from 3,500 to 10,000 ft. elevation. Provides palatable nutritious forage to livestock and wildlife and is an important winter browse species.
